COVID-19 Rapid Molecular Test with Nasal Swab

  • Nasal Swab, Results in 15 minutes
  • This test tells you if you have a current infection. The nasal swab detects viral RNA.
  • Molecular testing is far superior to screen testing traditionally used in physicians’ offices.

Rapid Active COVID-19 Test with Nasal Swab

  • Molecular testing same as above – simply not a rapid test.
  • This is a nasal swab that is sent to the lab and returns results in 1-3 days
  • This test tells you if you have a current infection. The nasal swab detects viral RNA.

Rapid Antibody Test with Finger Stick

  • Rapid antibody test via a finger stick and results in 15 minutes.
    • Serologic Antibody Testing with a finger stick to draw blood
  • This test detects IgM and IgG antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Antibodies represent the immune system’s effort to fight off the disease. The detection of antibodies indicates that you currently have or have recently had the virus.
  • In the early days of an infection, when the body’s immune response is still building, antibodies may not be detected.
  • IgM antibodies represent the body’s early response to the virus and take at least a week to appear after a person has been infected.
  • IgG antibodies represent the body’s later response to the virus and appear approximately 3 to 4 weeks after infection.

Extended Molecular Test with Nasal Swab

  • This is a nasal swab that is sent to the lab and returns extended results in 1-3 days.
  • This tests for COVID-19, the Flu and multiple other viruses. This test is an important tool because the viruses cause similar symptoms but require different treatment approaches.
  • No appointment needed

Important Considerations

  • Testing is time-sensitive and repeat testing may be needed. If you test negative for COVID-19, you may not have been infected at the time your sample was collected. You may also test negative if your sample was collected too early on after exposure. You may also be exposed to COVID-19 after the test and become infected then.​
  • At this time, there is not enough evidence to support that the presence of antibodies to COVID-19 provides short- or long-term immunity to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

  1. Insurance typically covers COVID-19 testing costs.
  2. Without insurance: Antibody (15 minute test) is $50; Rapid Molecular (15 minute test) is $175

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What does a negative COVID test really mean? 

A negative test means you are likely not infected at the time of testing; however, results are not 100% accurate and if you were exposed it’s possible you are still in the incubation period which would cause a false negative.

Q. Next week I am traveling on a plane for business and need a rapid test to confirm I am negative.

If traveling, a negative test pre-travel does not preclude you from becoming exposed on the plane or after you arrive at your destination, or possible you are still in the incubation period.

Q. If  my COVID test comes back negative should I still quarantine for 14 days?

If your COVID test is negative you likely do not need to quarantine, but as mentioned, if tested too early after exposure it can be a false negative, and possible you are still in the incubation period.

Q. I am Asymptomatic with no known exposure – should I get tested?

Asymptomatic with no known exposure, no need to get tested. If you have symptoms we recommend being evaluated by our providers so they can decide if you need testing, and if so, COVID or other viral testing including influenza, as we are now entering flu season.
